Frequently Asked Questions
Everything parents ask us about turning photos into coloring pages — how it works, what happens to your photos, and what's coming next.
What is Custom Color?
Custom Color turns your own photos — family moments, kids, pets, vacations — into printable coloring pages. Upload a photo, our AI converts it into clean black-and-white line art, and you print it at home for your child to color. We also offer a library of free themed coloring pages and are building custom printed coloring books.
How does the photo-to-coloring-page conversion work?
When you upload a photo, it is sent securely to an AI image model from Black Forest Labs that redraws it as line art: black outlines on a white background, with people and poses preserved. Conversion usually takes under a minute. You can then preview the result and download it as a printable image.
What kind of photos work best?
Clear, well-lit photos with your subjects easy to see. Faces toward the camera, minimal motion blur, and not too much busy background give the cleanest line art. Photos can be JPEG, PNG, or WebP, up to 10MB.
What coloring styles can I choose?
Four styles: Classic (clean medium-weight outlines), Bold (thick simple shapes for young kids and crayons), Detailed (finer interior lines for older kids and adults), and Cartoon (cute, rounded cartoon versions of your subjects). If one style doesn't suit your photo, try another.
What happens to my photo after I upload it?
Your photo is sent to our AI processing partner for one purpose: generating your coloring page. We don't sell photos and we don't use them for advertising. Saved images live in private, account-scoped storage that only you can access. You can request deletion of your photos at any time by emailing hello@customcolor.ai. Full details are in our Privacy Policy.
Is it safe to upload photos of my kids?
The product is built for exactly that, with safety designed in. Every upload can be screened by automated content moderation that fails closed — if a safety check can't complete, the photo is refused rather than processed — and screening gets stricter, not looser, when a child is detected in the image. Photos are uploaded and controlled by you, the parent or guardian, and your saved images are private to your account.
Is there a free option?
Yes. You can convert a photo into a coloring page for free, and our free coloring pages library offers printable themed pages at no cost. The free conversion tool is rate-limited to a few conversions per hour so it stays available for everyone.
Why did my conversion fail or get refused?
Common reasons: the file is over 10MB, you hit the hourly limit on free conversions, the conversion timed out on a complex image, or the photo was declined by our automated safety screening — which errs on the side of refusing when it can't verify a photo is safe. Try a smaller or clearer photo, wait a bit, or contact us if you think a photo was refused in error.
The line art doesn't look quite right. What can I do?
AI conversion isn't perfect every time — likeness, hands, and busy scenes can come out imperfect. Try regenerating, switching styles (Bold simplifies, Detailed preserves more), or using a clearer photo with fewer subjects. Review pages before printing.
Can I order a printed coloring book?
Printed coloring books are coming but ordering isn't open yet. When it launches, Custom Color will be your seller of record, with printing and shipping handled by a professional print fulfillment partner. For printing questions in the meantime, email orders@customcolor.ai.
How much will printed books cost? What about refunds?
Pricing, shipping, and refund terms are being finalized and will be published before paid ordering opens. We won't take payment before those terms are posted.
Do I need an account?
No account is needed to try the free conversion or download free coloring pages. Creating a free account (email and password) lets you sign in and, as features roll out, save your creations and build books. Accounts are for adults — parents, guardians, and teachers.
Who can see my uploaded photos and creations?
Only you. Uploads and saved creations are private to your account — they're not public, not shared with other users, and not used in any gallery. A small set of service providers process data on our behalf to run the product, as described in our Privacy Policy.
How do I delete my photos or my account?
Email hello@customcolor.ai from the address on your account and tell us what you'd like removed — specific photos, generated pages, or the whole account. We'll confirm when deletion is complete.
Can I use the coloring pages in my classroom?
Yes. Generated pages and free library pages are licensed for personal, family, and classroom use. Print as many copies as your class needs. What's not allowed is reselling the pages or redistributing them as your own product.
How do I get help with something not covered here?
Email hello@customcolor.ai or use the contact page. We typically reply within 1–2 business days.
